Writing Assignment 1:   Complaint Letter

For this assignment, you will write a letter to a company or other organization (government agency, neighborhood association, etc.) about something which has dissatisfied or upset you.

In class on Tuesday, January 24 , we will look at sample complaint letters and discuss how to rhetorically analyze a writing situation in order to plan the most effective complaint letter possible.   If possible, you should have decided on the topic for your letter by this class meeting.

Due in class Thursday, January 26 :   Rhetorical analysis for complaint letter.

Due in class Tuesday, January 31 : Rough draft of your complaint letter for peer response workshop.

The final draft of your complaint letter, along with rough drafts and comments from the peer response workshop, is due Tuesday, February 7 .
