There are many standing century houses in Dogtown. I am concerned to identify these, document them as century houses and get photos of them now and hopefully past photos of them. The reason that this project seems so important to this history of Dogtown is that I am convinced that the coming of the World's Fair in 1904, brings with it a significant change in Dogtown's history. For those working at and on the Fair, that change comes a few years before the Fair itself. Thus I have chosen the nice round numbered year of 1900 to focus on.
After that period Dogtown had a population boom that forever changed it. Thus documenting the century houses as we turn not only the century, but the millenium, is a project worth supporting.
.Below is a working document, a hopefully growing list of century houses and their tales
when they can be found. Photos of the houses, as they can be located and scanned to digital
form will be a part of this project. The list is small now, but hopefully will grow in the near future.

This home along the west side of Dewey School was built in 1898. The present owner, only the third family residing there, reports that the Schatzle Family built it and later it was lived in by the Family Lynch.
This home, current owned by Danny and Pam Liston of Seamus McDaniel's, was built in 1891. Danny reports that city records indicate quite a few turn-overs of the home in its early days, then more stability later. In redecorating they discovered evidence that there must once have been a somewhat significant fire in the home. Also, the old gas light lines were still in the ceilings.
This home which faces Plateau, but borders Cutter Ave. was originally the home of the Cutter family who had a farm there as early as 1860. The home was built later, but before 1900.
Ed Crotty, one of the "traditionalists" of St. James Church, was living in this house in 1899.
This home was built in 1894 according to the present owner who has seen the papers in the St. Louis City records.
Built by Edward Bellamy in 1895, only the Bellamys and Shurwans, present residents, have lived in this house. It was the first house built in that particular subdivision.
The Bradys, well known Dogtown family have lived in this home which their family purchased from Charles Baumhoff in 1903. The Baumhoff's had the house from at least 1897 as attested by the deed which the Bradys have, and of which I have a copy in my files.
