Please join us on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the St. James School
Cafeteria, 1360 Tamm Ave., for this very special presentation: THE HISTORY OF
DOGTOWN SOCCER.
Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
The Dogtown Historical Society will present a collection of historic soccer photographs accompanied by a panel discussion on the History of Dogtown Soccer. Members of the panel will relate stories and memories of the Dogtown soccer players, teams and leagues from the turn of the century to the 1960’s, as the photographs are projected on a large screen for all to see.
Several players from Dogtown were voted to the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame and we are fortunate to have one on our panel. Many of you will remember that Dogtown was especially proud of their men’s soccer teams and leagues, and the neighborhood supported the players and enjoyed watching the games.
Our panel will be made up of former Dogtown soccer players: Daniel “Duke” McVey, a member of the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame; Bob McVey; Henry Herbst and Robert
E. (Bob) Corbett. Corbett will serve as the moderator for the evening. His father, Robert C. Corbett, was also voted to the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame and the recipient of the Silver Boot for 25 years of distinguished service to soccer in St. Louis.
This presentation is underwritten to honor Robert Cornelius and Louise Wilbourn Corbett.
