Although there are no restrictions on your taking
another ITM course in conjunction with ITM 5000, I strongly encourage
you not to do so this semester. This is based upon feedback that I have
received from previous ITM 5000 students. They either either said that taking two
ITM courses
consumed more time than they expected or they believe that they would have done
better in the other course if they had completed ITM 5000 first.
If you absolutely want to take two courses, you should consider making the second
one an elective.
You will have 1-2
projects to turn in for this class.
They are not difficult to perform (even if you have very little
computer expertise). The primary goal of these assignments is to
make you develop analytical skills that people expect graduate
students to have.
This
course does require a lot of reading
each week if you want to keep up with the material for each test. If
your job or family situation precludes you from devoting the required
number of hours per week, you should not consider taking another class
along with ITM 5000. Otherwise, your grades may suffer in both
courses.
Even if you have a degree in MIS or CIS,
you will find this course and its tests challenging. Do not think that
you can "fake your way" to an A. We cover a lot of material
that has probably never been covered in your undergraduate classes. So you will
need to devote a lot of time to this course as well. There will be, of
course, some chapters where the material is very familiar (especially
during the first few weeks). But many of
the chapters will cover topics with which you are not intimately
familiar.
