If you do the work, you probably want to get credit for
it. The best way for me to know who you are is to make sure that your
e-mail headers clearly identify you. Identifiers like "Jet
Jockey", "Sexy Chick", "qxtv933b@prodigy.com", or "Bob and Kathy" do not
help me know who you are. And students inevitably fail to include
their names in the body of their e-mail messages.
If I can't readily
identify who you are, you won't get credit for the assignment at all. If
you don't resubmit it properly by the designated due date, it will be
considered "late" and
points will be
deducted.
If I have to search for your identity
somewhere within your e-mail message, you will get credit for the
assignment but you will
lose 1 point for not complying with this procedure.
So if you want to avoid the
"identity problem", check your e-mail
program's configuration menu and change it (if necessary) so that
your
name clearly appears in the FROM portion of the e-mail message that I
receive. In case you
forgot (or don't know ) how to make the changes, here are the procedures to follow for
Microsoft's popular e-mail programs:
MICROSOFT OUTLOOK 2000
or (earlier)
-
Open Microsoft
Outlook. Click on TOOLS,
SERVICES, then
PROPERTIES.
-
Under USER
IDENTIFICATION, check the entry in the
NAME
box.
-
Make sure that it clearly includes your last name. If
you have a common name (like Jones or Smith), make sure that you
include your first name as well.
-
Click OK as needed to complete the configuration
process.
MICROSOFT OUTLOOK XP
(or later)
-
Open Microsoft Outlook. Click
on TOOLS, OPTIONS,
MAIL SETUP tab, then
E-MAIL ACCOUNTS.
Select
VIEW
OR CHANGE E-MAIL ACCOUNTS. Click NEXT.
Select your e-mail
account. Select CHANGE.
In the
YOUR
NAME box, enter you name as you want it to appear in the
FROM portion of the e-mail messages you send. Click
NEXT.
Complete any other
entries necessary to complete the process.
MICROSOFT OUTLOOK EXPRESS
-
Click on
TOOLS,
ACCOUNTS, MAIL,
then PROPERTIES.
-
Under
USER IDENTIFICATION check the entry in the
NAME
box.
-
Make sure that it clearly includes your last name. If
you have a common name (like Jones or Smith), make sure that you
include your first name as well.
-
Click OK as needed to complete the configuration
process.
If (for some reason) you choose not
to make the above changes,
then include your name in the subject line after
the name of the assignment. (EXAMPLE: SYS CONFIG -
Jim Jones). It is your responsibility to comply with this procedure so
that you can get full credit for your work.
