This Social Studies Skill Builder allows students to learn about various Chinese achievements from the Tang and Song dynasties. Working online, students examine 15 images of Chinese achievements, such as movable-type printing, gunpowder, porcelain, and mechanical clocks. For each image, the student will match the image of the achievement with the corresponding written description of the achievement. After reading the description, the student designs a visual symbol for the achievement, copies the corresponding Chinese character provided in the classroom, and writes a summary sentence of it on a scroll. At the end of the activity, students stand on a spectrum to represent the impact of each achievement on their community today.
