NURS-3020
LAB WRITE-UPS:
Time will be allotted during class
sessions to practice and perform physical examination of the system(s)
being presented. Findings from the exam of each system are to be
written
in narrative form and submitted at the end of the laboratory session or
no later than the beginning of the next class meeting. These write-ups
are graded satisfactory/unsatisfactory (S/U) and are intended to serve
as guides/feedback for your physical
exam write-up. POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM THE FINAL GRADE, IF ALL
LAB WRITE-UPS ARE NOT SUBMITTED.
HEALTH HISTORY: *
The student will write an in-depth,
narrative style health history obtained from an adult client of their
choice
from the community. The history is to include:
-
general information;
-
functional health patterns assessment;
and
-
review of systems.
ASSESSMENT DATA ANALYSIS:
*
In collaboration with the client,
identify a minimum of one strength or problem area for each of the
eleven functional
health patterns.
PHYSICAL EXAM: *
A physical examination is performed
on the same client from whom the history was obtained. Exam findings
are
written in narrative from using the lab write-ups as guides. Areas to
be included
in the exam are: general appearance, skin/hair/nails. head and face,
eyes,
ears, neck, nose and sinuses, mouth and oropharynx, breast, abdomen,
thorax
and lungs, cardiac and peripheral vascular, musculoskeletal and
neurological
systems.
LAB EXAM:
During the day of the last
class
session, by pairs each student will demonstrate the physical
exam of a selected
system on a partner. This exam is designed to test the student's skills
in examining a particular system, chosen at random. The specific times
will be mutually determined by students and instructor for the last day
of class.

Health History, Data Analysis and Physical Exam must be typed.
