OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the unit, the student will be
able to:
UNIT I. INTRODUCTION
TO COMMUNITY
HEALTH NURSING
- Define key concepts
of community health nursing.
- Describe various
roles of community health nurses.
- Discuss historical
events that have influenced the development of community health nursing.
- Describe
characteristics, models and tenets applicable to community health
nursing.
- Describe the
community health nurse's role in research.
UNIT II. NURSING PROCESS
IN THE COMMUNITY
- Apply the nursing
process to
an aggregate client.
- Use epidemiological
methods
to describe the state of health of a community.
- Describe the steps
in the health planning model.
- Describe the purpose
and process for conducting a home visit.
UNIT III. INFLUENCES ON
COMMUNITY HEALTH
- Examine cultural
differences
in the community.
- Examine the
influence of poverty on health.
- Describe
abusive/violent situations within families/society and analyze
contributing factors.
- Discuss
environmental conditions/hazards affecting health.
- Explore reactions to
how influences are portrayed in current literature

- Describe the current
health care system.

issues in health care reform.

UNIT V. COMMUNITY HEALTH
PROBLEMS & AGGREGATES AT RISK

community health issues/problems and aggregates at risk in the

process and health planning model to the selected problems and
aggregates.
- Explore current
plans and resources for selected populations.
