Syllabus
DESCRIPTION:
This elective
course explores internet resources available which involve nursing and
health care. The student will practice in the laboratory setting and submit
assignments which reflect an ability to research topics on the internet
related to health and nursing.
OBJECTIVES:
- Describe Internet services.
- Describe components of Web addresses.
- Use search engines to find information on specific health and nursing topics.
- Find and demonstrate ability to list and read messages in newsgroups and listservs related to health.
- Send, read, forward, reply, save, and print e-mail messages.
- Connect to a medical library on the internet and use publicly assessable resources.
- Use Webster Library's Passports to search a variety of sources on health related topics.
- Discuss issues related to evaluation of Web sites and the information they contain.
- Demonstrate citation of sources from the internet.
REQUIREMENTS: For two credit hours:
Communicate with instructor and classmates via e-mail.
Organize and submit bookmark lists on directed and self-selected topics.
Present findings from a Web search of various sites on topics related to health and nursing.
Submit a reference list of Web sources on a selected topic.
Complete weekly assignments.
For three credit hours (in addition to above):
Develop and post a Web page, with links and images, pertaining to a self-selected topic in nursing.
