Just Noticeable Differences
The smallest difference between two physical stimuli that can be detected. Weber ask subjects to lift two weights, a standard and a comparison. Small differences resulted in judgments of sameness; large differences in judgments of disparity.
Weber found that the JND between two weights was a constant ratio (1:40).
