Jamesís Crisis
James perceived a conflict between the objective, scientific viewpoint based on determinism and personal, subjective feelings, such as the feeling that oneís will is free. James used pragmatism to solve the problem.
While using the scientific method in psychology, it is necessary to assume that human behavior is determined.
However, certain metaphysical questions are beyond the reach of science, and a subjective approach is more useful in dealing with them.
