Introduction
Increasing awareness of violence in both the workplace and schools has resulted in intensified research, program development, and policy generation designed to enhance the safety of workers, children, and adolescents. While fewer incidents of violence have been reported in the national media involving colleges and universities, it would be foolish to assume that these institutions are immune from such societal trends. Recent studies have suggested an increase in alcohol-related violence (Syre, T. R., Pesa, J. A., & Cockley, D., 1999) as well as an increase in hate crimes on campus (Downey, J. P. & Stage, F. K., 1999).This website is designed to raise awareness of the issues surrounding violence/hostility within the university setting and to provide valuable information aimed at promoting peaceful classrooms and a safe academy.
