The Midwest Theatre Auditions are a decades-old audition and employment event to serve professional summer stock theatres, in addition to year-round theatres and select theatre training programs. The MWTA is dedicated to celebrating emerging college and university theatre artists and young professionals, and to provide a platform for employment.

Information for

The Midwest Theatre Auditions give performers the opportunity to audition for many theatre companies in one location.

General Audition

You have 90 seconds to perform a monologue and/or a song (accompanists will be provided).

Optional Dance Call

Musical theatre combination with any style of dance shoe (i.e., jazz, character, ballet, etc.).

Callbacks

Same day, varying length — bring headshot and resume!

To apply for the Midwest Theatre Auditions:

  1. Prospective auditionees must be nominated by a college professor or theatre professional. Please confirm your nomination with your nominator prior to beginning the application process. You will be required to provide the name of your nominator and the institution they belong to on your application.

 

  1. Register for a MWTA Audition. Audition slots are first-come, first-served, and fill up quickly. Once slots are assigned, the date and time cannot be changed.

The actor application fee is $50, payable only via Visa or Mastercard. Cash and check are not accepted.

General Audition Session:

Each actor is given 90 seconds in the general audition session to perform a monologue and/or a song (accompanists will be provided).

Dance Call:

In addition to the general audition session there will be an optional dance call. If you wish to participate, you must indicate this on your application. The dance call will be a musical theatre combination. Any style of dance shoe is permitted (i.e., jazz, character, ballet, etc.); however, street shoes are not permitted on the dance floor.

Callbacks:

Callbacks will be held on the same day as your audition. The length of callbacks varies on a company-to-company basis. Theatres will be given your information for the general audition session, however, you are responsible for providing your own headshots and resumes for callbacks.

The Midwest Theatre Auditions offer theatre designers, technicians, and stage managers (D/T/SM) the opportunity to interview for multiple theatre companies in one location only on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022. 

To apply for the Midwest Theatre Auditions:

  1. Prospective interviewees must be nominated by a college professor or theatre professional. Please confirm your nomination with your nominator prior to beginning the application process. You will be required to provide the name of your nominator and the institution they belong to on your application.

 

  1. Register for a MWTA Interview. D/T/SM interviews will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26. Unlike acting auditions, which are in person only, D/T/SM interviewees will have the choice of participating in person or via Zoom.

Interviewees are responsible for bringing their own resume and portfolio to the interview session.

The Midwest Theatre Auditions connect your company with hundreds of talented performers, designers, technicians, and stage mangers. As a company you will have the choice to attend performer auditions, designer/technician/stage manager interviews, or both. The MWTA offers a blend of equity and non-equity actors.

Important Information:

  • Registration gives companies access to the general audition sessions, designer/technician/stage manager interviews, dance call sessions, and callbacks.
  • After your company has been registered, you will receive notice of your callback location. These spaces will be throughout the Webster University campus.
  • The theatre company application fee is $95, payable online by Visa or MasterCard. This provides the company with full attendance privileges and a flash drive with a PDF of actor information, including headshot and resume, and a flash drive of DTSM interviewee information, including resume.
  • Hard copy binders of actor information and DTSM interviewee information are available as an additional purchase.
  • Lunches and dinners at the event and a piano in your callback room are other additional purchases that you may indicate on your registration.
