A Place for Photography

Established in 1988, the Gallery is dedicated to showing a wide range of photographic works by student, local, national and international photographers. Currently being remodeled as part of the Sverdrup West Wing Renovations, the new cutting-edge gallery space will reopen fall of 2022 as the Koojumjian Gallery of Photography.

The Bill Barrett Annual Photography Faculty Exhibition

Bill Barrett in cap and gown at Webster University's commencement ceremony.

For 23 years, Bill Barrett curated and grew the May Gallery into a nationally renowned exhibition space for world-class photography, including the work of the faculty who taught in the Photography program at Webster University. To honor his life and legacy, the yearly show of faculty work has been named The Bill Barrett Annual Photography Faculty Exhibition. Thank you Bill, for everything you did for the May Gallery, for Webster University, The School of Communications and for the art and craft of photography.

The most recent faculty exhibition, which took place Feb. 18-March 11, 2022, featured works by Robin Assner-Alvey, Bill Barrett, Tom Barkman, Claudia Burris, Dan Dreyfus, Krista Rose Frohling, Christine Giancola, David Hanlon, Greg Landrum, Dominique Macaire, David Moore, Erica Popp, Buddhaporn Srisupawat, Susan Hacker Stang, Jennifer Silverberg and T. Ann Tolin.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. While construction is underway in the May Gallery’s previous space, our shows will be primarily virtual with a selection of images hung elsewhere in the Sverdrup Building. Explore the virtual gallery of works selected for the faculty show.

The west wing of the Sverdrup building is undergoing a major renovation.

The May Gallery will be part of this renovation. The gallery will be closed starting in March 2022, and our exhibitions will move to an online format with Zoom receptions. The gallery will reopen in its entirely new physical space when the renovation is complete.
