Program Description

This minor explores multiple forms of injustice and inequity through an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach to gender, race, sexuality, and other categories. Students develop analytical, critical thinking, and advocacy skills that enable them to develop careers in solving vital social issues.

Learning Outcomes

Successful graduate of the Gender, Race and Sexuality minor will be able to:

  • Identify the relevance of gender, race, and sexuality in various historical and geopolitical contexts.
  • Explain how discourses of gender, race, and sexuality intersect with other categories such as ethnicity, class, religion, age, ability, body size, neurotype, nationality, and citizenship status.
  • Analyze media, language, and texts through feminist, queer, critical race, and decolonial perspectives, among others.
  • Apply intersectional frameworks to discrimination, exploitation, group-based violence, and violations of human rights.
  • Develop strategies for individuals and groups to create solutions to oppression and inequity.
