Minor
18 Credit Hours
This program is offered by the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts/Department of Music and is only available at the St. Louis main campus.

A music minor requires a minimum of 18 credit hours of formal coursework from the University curriculum completed at Webster University (see specific course requirements listed below). Courses used to fulfill a major may not also be used to fulfill a requirement for the music minor.
Students who wish to minor in music should contact the Department of Music to request a meeting with the department chair, who will determine admittance to the minor.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Perform music on a selected instrument at a level appropriate to the student’s needs and interests
- Articulate through writing, speaking, and other media a fundamental understanding of foundational theoretical, historical, and aesthetic frameworks of a variety of musics and musical cultures.
Required Courses
The minor in music requires 18 credit hours to be successfully completed through music theory, music history, and music performance courses:
- MUSC 1010 Music Theory and Aural Skills I (4 hours)
- MUSC 1020 Music Theory II (3 hours)
- A minimum of 6 credit hours chosen from the following:
- MUSC 2060 Social and Cultural Approaches to Music (3 hours)
- MUSC 2070 Music in Western Culture (3 hours)
- MUSC 3170 Jazz History (3 hours)
- MUSC 3520 History of Popular Styles (3 hours)
- 2-3 hours chosen from the following:
- MUSC 2001 Applied Piano (1 hour)
- MUSC 2002 Applied Voice (1 hour)
- MUSC 2003 Applied Jazz (1 hour)
- MUSC 2004 Applied Instrument (1 hour)
- MUSC 2501 Applied Piano (2 hours)
- MUSC 2502 Applied Voice (2 hours)
- MUSC 2503 Applied Jazz (2 hours)
- MUSC 2504 Applied Instrument (2 hours)
- 2-3 hours chosen from the following:
