Students in the Department of Art, Design and Art History (DADAH) at Webster University don’t have to wait until graduation to start showing and selling their work.
Earlier in the academic year, DADAH seniors presented their professional portfolios during the annual DADAH Showcase. Hosted in partnership with the Career Planning and Development Center, the event brought students together with creative professionals, industry guests and members of the Webster community. Work on display represented a range of disciplines, including studio art, illustration, graphic design, sculpture and ceramics.
Rachel Ganey, BFA in Graphic Design, ’25, shared a portfolio of illustration and design
projects that reflect her personal style and growth.
Later in the academic year, students and alumni gathered again for the second annual DADAH Market, where they sold original artwork to a crowd of more than 200 visitors. Pieces for sale included ceramics, paintings, jewelry, zines and prints. For many participants, it was their first experience marketing and pricing their own work.
A range of visitors browsed student artwork and handmade items at the 2024 DADAH event.
Senior Lauryn Wells said, “I was surprised by how much fun we all had, artists and customers alike. I have even bigger ideas this year.”
Outside of these events, DADAH students stay creatively engaged throughout the year. They have 24/7 access to multiple studios across disciplines, including sculpture, ceramics, photography, printmaking and graphic design. This access gives them the time, tools and flexibility to bring their ideas to life. Whether preparing for critique or building a portfolio, students are continuously developing the skills and confidence to thrive as creative professionals.
