Your Path to Webster Dance

The Department of Dance invites you to audition for acceptance as a degree-seeking student. This is a key step toward joining our program (not required for a Dance minor).

How to Apply and Audition

Required steps as a degree-seeking student in the Dept. of Dance:

  1. Apply to Webster University
  2. Schedule a Dance Audition
  3. Prepare for your Audition

We offer an unparalleled experience and unrivaled training in a major urban area. Our program has a strong foundation in ballet and modern dance, with equally strong training in jazz, tap, hip-hop and aerial. Our curriculum is supplemented with courses in anatomy, choreography, dance history and more to help you explore the entire spectrum of dance.

The department aims to prepare students for careers in performance, choreography, private instruction and entrance into Master of Fine Arts programs.

The Audition Process

Your audition day at Webster is designed to give our faculty a complete look at your skills, experience and artistic goals. The process has three main components: an interview, technique classes and a solo performance.

Interview and Resume

You will have an individual interview to discuss your dance background and career goals. We also ask that you submit a dance resume with your application materials.

Technique Classes

You will participate in both a ballet and a modern technique class. During check-in, you can speak with our faculty to decide if you'd like to join the Intermediate or Advanced class, or a combination of both. You'll also have the opportunity to observe other classes throughout the day. Pointe work is not required.

Solo Performance

Prepare a solo piece that is two to three minutes in length. This can be either a work you choreographed yourself or a piece by another choreographer. Your solo will be performed in the studio after your technique class. Please — no tap solos.
