Become an expert on some of the most important issues in today’s world with the Master of Arts in National Security Studies at Webster University. With this degree, you will gain the skills, theories, laws, and techniques necessary to work in the rapidly changing field of national security, opening doors to a wide range of careers protecting the nation from external and internal threats.
Students learn the theory and background information needed to understand the actors, institutions, contexts, methods, and ethics of national security decision making. Graduates of the program are critical and innovative thinkers capable of taking on the continually evolving landscape of securing the nation in a range of capacities.
The online learning format makes it possible to earn a degree no matter where you are, on a flexible schedule or while traveling.
Students can choose to specialize in either international and regional security, cybersecurity, or criminal justice, and are eligible to earn a graduate certificate in the track they choose - in addition to the MA degree - to demonstrate that specialization.
The National Security Studies program is committed to the idea of personalized education based on close relationships between faculty and students. At the culmination of their studies, all National Security Studies students will undertake an independent research project, working with a faculty member to design, conduct and present their research.
This dual degree option combines the MA in National Security Studies and the MS in Cybersecurity into one course of study. With 10 required courses plus a capstone or thesis, students select electives from both programs. Upon completion of the 54 credits, two separate diplomas are issued at the same time. The two degrees cannot be awarded separately or sequentially under this arrangement.
MA in National Security Studies and MS in Cybersecurity requirements
This dual-degree option combines the MA in National Security Studies and the MS in Criminal Justice into one course of study. With six required courses plus a capstone or thesis, students select remaining course electives. Upon completion of the 48 credits, two separate diplomas are issued at the same time. The two degrees cannot be awarded separately or sequentially under this arrangement.
MA in National Security Studies and MS in Criminal Justice requirements
This Master of Arts program consists of 51 credit hours in both national security studies classes and international relations classes. Students have the option of capstone or thesis. Upon completion of the 51 credits, a single degree is awarded with two major concentrations. The two programs cannot be awarded separately or sequentially under this arrangement.
