Financial Aid Scholarships and Programs

More than 100 years ago, Webster University was founded on the principles of providing high-quality learning experiences to all. Today, the legacy of accessibility remains a cornerstone of the University’s vision. We understand financial considerations are critical when deciding to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree.

That’s why we assist our students in securing the necessary loans and grants, and guide them to scholarship resources. Because we’re an international university with a diverse community, we’re adept at finding the available financial aid programs, understanding the eligibility requirements and navigating the application process.

Grants for Undergraduate Students

The Access Missouri Grant (opens in new tab) is a state-funded grant that provides assistance to residents of Missouri who are seeking a first bachelor's degree. A minimum of 12 credit hours is required each semester in order to receive the Access Missouri Grant. Students who have completed a bachelor's degree are NOT eligible to receive a Missouri Student Grant.

  • Value: Up to $2,850
  • The priority application deadline is April 1. Funding and maximum award vary each year, please visit the site for more information.

The Access Extra Scholarship (opens in new tab) is a private scholarship for students eligible for the Access Missouri Financial Assistance Program and who have earned a cumulative 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent on another scale) weighted or unweighted GPA through at least seven semesters at a Missouri high school. Please note, in order to qualify the GPA will need to be converted to a 4.0 scale.

  • Value: Up to $2,000 per academic year
  • Apply Early. Opens on Feb. 1 and are first-come, first-served until funding is depleted.

FSEOG (opens in new tab) is for undergraduates with exceptional need, i.e., the students with the lowest EFC who are also Federal Pell Grant recipients. Students who have received a bachelor's degree are NOT eligible for FSEOG.

  • Value: Students may receive up to $2,000 per year depending on eligibility and funding level.

The Fast Track Workforce Incentive Grant is a program for Missouri residents who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are 25 years or older, have not been enrolled in any school within the last two years and are working toward their first bachelor's degree. This program is designed to ensure, when combined with other governmental financial aid, that tuition and fee costs are fully covered.

The program addresses workforce needs by helping adults pursue a certificate, degree or industry-recognized credential in an area designated as high need. Learn more about Webster's eligible academic programs (PDF opens in new tab). More details about the application process are available on the DHEWD webpage (opens in new tab).

The Federal Pell Grant (opens in new tab) is an award for undergraduates only with no prior bachelors or professional degree. Eligibility is primarily based on your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) but is also affected by your enrollment status. A minimum of 12 credit hours each semester is required to receive full eligibility, with prorated awards going to students with fewer than 12 credit hours.

Room and Board Grant assistance is a limited University-funded program which provides assistance to undergraduate students pursuing a first bachelor's degree, who are enrolled for 13 or more credit hours per semester and living in campus housing. This aid program is available to St. Louis campus students only and awards vary depending upon the level of a student's unmet need.

This program began with eligible new students in Fall 2016 who planned to live on campus. If a student decides to not live on campus or moves out of campus, eligibility for this grant ends. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the Financial Aid Office if they are not living in campus housing so this assistance can be removed. The Financial Aid Office will remove the grant once it is discovered the student is not living in campus housing.

TEACH (opens in new tab) grants may be available for either undergraduate or graduate students that intend to teach specific subjects at qualified schools upon graduation.

  • Value: Students may receive up to $4,000 per academic year in exchange for an agreement to teach in specific schools and subject areas after graduation. It is important to note that if a student should fail to fulfill the requirements of the Agreement To Serve (ATS), the TEACH grant will be converted to an unsubsidized loan.

Webster University Grant assistance is a University-funded program which provides assistance to undergraduate students pursuing a first bachelor's degree and who are enrolled for 13 or more credit hours per semester. This aid program is available to St. Louis campus students only and is intended to augment another gift aid that the student may or may not be receiving. Awards vary depending upon the level of a student's unmet need.

Student Loan Programs

Direct Subsidized Loans (opens in new tab) are need-based loans and are available to eligible undergraduate students. Repayment of principal is postponed while the student is in school and during a six-month grace period after the student leaves school or drops below half time status. These loans are made by a lender, such as a bank, credit union or savings and loan association; are insured by a state or nonprofit guarantee agency; and are reinsured by the federal government.

The federal government pays (subsidizes) interest on the borrower's behalf:

  • While student is in school.
  • While student is in their grace period.
  • During authorized periods of deferment of repayment.

Direct Unsubsidized Loans (opens in new tab) are non-need-based loans and are available to eligible undergraduate and graduate students. Repayment of principal is postponed while the student is in school and during a six-month grace period after the student leaves school or drops below half time status. The interest on Unsubsidized Direct Loans while the student is in school however is the borrower's responsibility to repay. These loans are made by a lender, such as a bank, credit union or savings and loan association; are insured by a state or nonprofit guarantee agency; and are reinsured by the federal government. Additionally, these loans:

  • are available to students who do not qualify, in whole or in part, for Subsidized Stafford Loans;
  • have terms that are the same as the terms for subsidized loans, except that the federal government DOES NOT pay any interest on the borrower's behalf;
  • may either accrue interest while the student is in school and then be added to the loan balance, or the borrower may begin making interest payments after the first loan check is disbursed;
  • accrue interest during the borrower's grace period and during authorized periods of deferment of repayment.

Parent PLUS (opens in new tab) (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) Loans enable parents to borrow up to the student's cost of attendance minus other aid for each dependent student who is enrolled at least half-time.

  • PLUS loans do NOT require that the student have demonstrated financial need. However, the combination of PLUS loans and any other aid may not exceed the cost of education for the term of the loan.

Graduate PLUS Loans (opens in new tab) allow graduate students to borrow funds up to the student's cost of attendance.

Private Education Loans are not state, federal, or institutional aid programs. Instead they are loan programs specifically tailored for educational expenses by private lenders. Since these programs are created by the lenders themselves, there are often different terms and conditions for receiving them.

Interest rates, fees, and maximum loan amounts are among the many factors that may vary from lender to lender. We strongly encourage students and parents to borrow first from the Federal Loan Programs. With the use of a survey process, we developed a recommended lender list, allowing our students and parents to compare Private Alternative Education Loan Lenders.

Scholarship assistance can be a significant factor in a student's ability to continue their education at Webster, and there are many donor-funded scholarships available to current and returning students to help ease the financial burden.

To be considered for a donor-funded scholarship:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as full-time, flat-fee undergraduate students at the Webster Groves campus.
  • Applicants must have 30 hours completed at Webster at the conclusion of the Spring 2022 semester, with a cumulative Webster grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Applicants must have a completed FAFSA on file in Webster's financial aid office for the 2021-22 academic year. Students who did not submit a FAFSA for 2021-22 will not be considered for an award.

**International students will be considered for donor-funded scholarships that do not require FAFSA information.

The scholarship committee selects recipients based on the information provided on this application, as well as enrollment history and demonstrated financial need. Demonstrated financial need is determined by the information provided on your FAFSA.
