Financially, Webster made sense. With competitive tuition, financial aid options and flexible course formats, including online and evening classes, I was able to advance my education without putting my career on hold.
Choosing Webster was more than earning a degree – it was about transforming my career and deepening my impact as a leader. For anyone seeking a graduate program that balances quality, flexibility and real-world relevance, Webster is a place where your ambitions can truly take shape.
What stood out about your studies at Webster?
What stood out most about my studies at Webster was the highly engaging and collaborative learning environment. The courses were not just about absorbing material; they were about applying knowledge to real-world situations. I particularly valued the interactive projects that pushed me to think critically and develop solutions to complex organizational challenges, many of which directly helped relate to my work in health care administration.
One of the most meaningful experiences I had was working on a capstone project that focused on improving operational efficiencies within nonprofit health care organizations. This project allowed me to integrate everything I had learned throughout the program, from strategic management to organizational behavior, and apply it to a cause I am deeply passionate about. It was both intellectually rewarding and professionally impactful.
What also made Webster unique was the caliber of the faculty. I had professors who were not only experts in their disciplines but also invested in my growth. Their feedback was thoughtful, constructive and often tailored to my professional context, which made the learning experience feel personal and relevant. I also built valuable relationships with fellow students, many of whom were professionals from diverse industries. The exchange of ideas, experiences and perspectives enriched every discussion and expanded my understanding far beyond my own field.
How did your Webster degree help advance you in your career?
My degree played a pivotal role in advancing my career and helping me achieve important professional goals. The program strengthened my ability to think strategically, lead effectively and manage complex challenges, all of which have been essential in my current role as president and CEO of Care Alliance Health Center.
Through Webster’s curriculum, I refined critical skills in strategic planning, organizational development and financial management, which I now use daily to guide teams, improve operations and navigate the complexities of health care administration. What made the experience especially valuable was the emphasis on practical application. I was able to apply what I was learning in real time, leading to immediate improvements in my professional work and outcomes.
My master’s degree from Webster also complemented my pursuit of a doctorate in health care administration, strengthening my academic foundation and enhancing my credibility as a health care leader. It signaled to colleagues, board members and community partners that I am deeply committed to continuous learning and equipped with the advanced knowledge needed to lead at the highest levels.
Overall, my Webster education was not just a degree, but a transformational experience that prepared me to lead with purpose, sharpened my expertise and helped position me for the executive leadership role I hold today.
What is something valuable you have learned during your career?
One of the most valuable lessons I have learned during my career is the importance of leading with both vision and empathy. As a health care executive, I have come to understand that success is not measured solely by outcomes, metrics or growth, but by how well we listen, connect and respond to the needs of the people we serve, whether they are patients, staff or community partners.
I have learned that effective leadership requires clarity of purpose and the ability to communicate a vision that inspires others to move forward together. At the same time, it demands humility, active listening and a genuine commitment to understanding the experiences and challenges of those around you. By prioritizing relationships and fostering trust, I have been able to navigate difficult decisions, drive organizational change and cultivate teams that are resilient, innovative and mission focused.
What advice would you give to others who are considering Webster for their degree?
My advice to anyone considering Webster for their degree is to approach the opportunity with intention and a clear sense of purpose. Webster offers more than just a degree; it offers an environment designed to help working professionals grow academically, sharpen their leadership skills and apply what they learn directly to their careers. To get the most out of the experience, you should be ready to engage deeply with the material, contribute actively to discussions and take advantage of the diverse perspectives you will encounter from faculty and fellow students.
One of Webster’s greatest strengths is its practical, real-world focus. You will find that the knowledge and skills you gain can be applied immediately in your workplace, which allows you to see the impact of your education in real time. I encourage prospective students to be open, curious and proactive in connecting coursework to their professional goals.
What has your life journey looked like?
I grew up in Wellston, Missouri, a small city just outside of St. Louis that shaped much of who I am today. Growing up in Wellston exposed me to the realities of economic hardship, limited health care access and the resilience of underserved communities. These early experiences had a profound impact on my worldview, instilling in me a deep sense of empathy, determination and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Today, I live in Cleveland, Ohio, where I serve as the president and CEO of Care Alliance Health Center, a federally qualified health center dedicated to providing health care and supportive services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, poverty and health disparities. My life journey has been one of perseverance, growth and purpose. Over the past two decades, I have built a career in health care and social services, moving from operational and management roles into executive leadership. Along the way, I pursued higher education, earning my master’s degree from Webster and later completing a doctorate in health care administration.
My journey has been shaped by both challenges and triumphs, each teaching me valuable lessons about leadership, humility and service. What has remained constant is my passion for advancing health equity and creating meaningful impact in the communities I serve. Today, I am honored to lead an organization whose mission so closely reflects the values that have guided me since my earliest days in Wellston.
