September 19, 2024
Congratulations to Community Music School (CMS) faculty member Ingrid Popp (viola) on being selected to present at the 2025 American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Conference March 19-22. Popp will present Tone in 10: Fundamental Bow Technique in 5-10 Minutes a Day on March 22 in Atlanta, Georgia. The theme of the 2025 Conference is String Synergy: Sparking Artistry, Innovation, & Connection – Reenergizing your performance and teaching.
Ms. Popp says, "I’m excited to be presenting at the 2025 ASTA Conference. The presentation will introduce my method for developing sophisticated tone production and bow strokes, for students at all levels of playing, in short ‘bow challenges’ that can be practiced in only 5-10 minutes a day and using a student’s current scales and review pieces - no music reading required.”
Founded in 1946, the American String Teachers Association exists to support string and orchestra teachers and players. Members range from budding student teachers to artist-status performers. ASTA provides teaching resources, professional education, local and national events, a career center, insurance programs, and access to a vibrant and collaborative strings community.
Ms. Popp has been a member of the CMS faculty for eight years teaching viola, violin and Suzuki viola. She is an alumnus of the Community Music School, obtained her Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and her Master of Music in Performance and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Music Education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Popp is currently the principal viola with the Alton Symphony Orchestra and section viola for the Webster University Orchestra.
“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Popp for being selected to present at the 2025 American String Teachers Association National Conference” says CMS Director Nicole Springer. “This recognition reflects her dedication, expertise, and passion for music education. Her presentation on fundamental bow technique will undoubtedly inspire and equip fellow educators and performers alike. Having been both a student and now a valued faculty member at the Community Music School, Ms. Popp exemplifies the artistic excellence and educational leadership we strive to cultivate. We look forward to seeing her continue to make a profound impact within the music community.”
