Summer Music Programs for PK - Grade 12
Kindermusik® Summer Adventures

6 months - 5 years and their caregivers.
Experience enough music, stories, and activities to inspire a lifetime of learning! In Kindermusik® camp, parents and children will play, learn, sing, dance, create, and share in the fun of making music together. Each one of our activities is specially designed to nurture every child’s natural curiosity, encouraging each child to learn new words, new concepts, and new ideas. Tuition includes materials kit. One full kit per family required.

String Orchestra Camp

String students age 7- high school
Students participate daily in full string orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, and master classes/special presentations. Three orchestra levels under the direction of CMS orchestra conductors will musically challenge every student.
Requirements: At least one year’s experience playing instrument and reading music (quarter and eighth notes, minimum).

Chamber Music Encounter

String & piano students through high school
Professional chamber musicians will coach trios, quartets, and quintets in this wonderful music form where compositions are performed by and written for one player for each part. Guest performers and speakers will share their experience in successful chamber music performance and ensemble development. Culminating presentation by all groups at the end of the camp.
Acceptance is based on audition, instrumentation needs for chamber ensembles (trios, quartets, quintets), and readiness for small ensemble playing.
String players need a developed vibrato. Students must be at or beyond the following representative minimum skill levels:
Violin: Suzuki Book 4-Vivaldi a minor Concerto
Viola: Suzuki Book 4-Seitz Concerto #2, 3rd movement
Cello: Suzuki Book 4-Breval Sonata in C Major
Piano: Clementi or Kuhlau Sonatinas

Flute Camp

Calling all flutists! Facilitated by Nadine Hur, this program is designed to address individual strengths and challenges. It includes warm-up exercises, tone, intonation and breathing techniques, and nationally-renown guest flutists. Past guests include Jeannie Baxtresser, Soo-Kyung Park, Keith Underwood, Immanuel Davis, Katherine Borst Jones, and Hadar Noiberg.
Requirements: One year playing flute in a school band program or at least one year of private flute instruction.
Band Camp

Grades 7-12 in Fall 2023
Participate in ensembles, master classes, and special events while learning important practice and audition preparation techniques. Work directly with St. Louis professional musicians who play your instrument! Meet and play music with students from around the bi-state area. We hope to split students into MS & HS groups, while allowing advanced MS students the opportunity to audition into the HS group. The week concludes with a full concert by the entire band.
One full year of participation in a school band program (on the instrument you will play during camp) or at least one year of private instruction. Auditions (to determine placement) are required for all students and will be held virtually by video submission, due by May 30th.
Summer Composition Intensive

Grades 7-12 in Fall 2023
Students will develop their compositions with St. Louis area composers and musicians. Work will be in groups according to experience level - from those needing the basics of notation, transposition, and scoring, to students with prior composing experience. The culminating event will feature each original work performed and recorded by professional musicians.
Requirements: Must be able to read music and play an instrument or sing.
Clazz
String Intensive

Intermediate to advanced string players ages 12 & up, including adults & professionals.
The Clazz String Intensive is designed to introduce classically-trained string players to the art of improvisation through the pedagogical ideals of jazz and musical languages from other cultures. This summer students will be exposed to jazz, blues, bluegrass, tango, and more. Faculty will include Clazz Quartet (Jeremy Cohen, Helmut Lipsky, Matt Pickart, and Cris Campbell) and special guests. Whether you’re a seasoned tunesmith or just beginning to create your own music, this camp is for you! Songwriting Camp includes daily songwriting technique lessons, co-writing sessions with peers coached by camp faculty, feedback sessions with camp faculty and peers, and a culminating concert. This camp focuses on contemporary, mass-market popular songwriting in a variety of styles.
Requirements: Must be able to accompany themselves on piano, guitar, ukulele or other harmonizing instrument.

Intermediate and Advanced instrumentalists age 21 and over
The MOCM Adult Chamber Music Intensive places adult amateur instrumentalists in chamber ensembles of various sizes and instrumentation to work with faculty player/coaches. The collaborative faculty have included members of the St. Louis and Boston Symphony Orchestras, the Arianna String Quartet, and other St. Louis area performers and teachers. The experience also includes group readings, master classes, faculty presentations, and concerts.
Requirements: Participants are encouraged to learn parts in advance of the Intensive.

Take your musicianship to the next level! Individual lessons give you the personal attention you need to succeed. 30-, 45-, or 60-minute lessons are available. Students must have their own instruments. A traditional piano is preferred for piano students.
Youngest Beginning Lesson Age:
- Piano and Guitar: ages 6
- String Instruments: ages 7-8
- Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion: ages 9-10
- Composition, Harp, Voice: age 12 (Composition students must have basic note-reading skills)

An annual non-refundable registration fee of $30 is charged once per school year.
