Housing and Residential Life

In support of Webster University's mission and the Student Affairs Division, the Housing and Residential Life Office is dedicated to our residents. We strive to create a community that provides a student-centered learning environment that supports our expectation of academic achievement and personal development.

Fall 2023 Important Housing Application Dates

  • Submit your housing contract by the April 1 priority deadline for the best chance of getting your preferred placement. Applications will still be accepted after April 1, and staff will do their best to still accommodate preferences. Apply on the “Apply for Housing” tab.
  • Submit your housing accommodation requests, such as a medical need for a single or emotional support animal, as early as possible. Find more information on the Accommodations tab.
  • Housing assignments will start to be announced on student’s Housing Portal the first week of June. Updates with new assignments or changes will be made on June 15, June 30, and then weekly until move-in.

  • Returning students should submit their Housing contract by Wednesday, March 10 at 5 p.m.
  • If there are accommodation requests, such as a medical need for a single or emotional support animal, students should also try to renew or confirm their accommodations by March 10.
  • March 27-31: Returner Room Self-Selection Process, where students can select the specific room they want. Specific instructions, including information about information sessions that review the process, will be emailed to all current residents by the end of February.
  • April 3-14: Students who choose not to participate in the Returner Room Self-Selection process, or apply late, will be manually assigned to a Housing assignment during this time.
Students who apply after these processes conclude will be assigned on a rolling basis.

Residency Requirement

Living on campus gives added value to the college experience. National research shows that students who live on campus do better academically, are more engaged, and have a smoother transition. Because of that, Webster has a two-year residency requirement. Even if a student is not required to live on campus, we encourage them to do so — and many do!

  • All freshmen enrolled at the St. Louis main campus are required to live on campus for their first two years at the University. Exceptions to this requirement are granted for freshmen living with their parents within a 35-mile radius of the main campus in Webster Groves.
  • Undergraduate international transfer students are required to live on campus for their first year enrolled in classes at the main campus.
  • Additionally, all Study Abroad students (undergraduate and graduate) who study abroad at any of the St. Louis Metro campuses are required to reside in on-campus housing for the duration of their Study Abroad experience. All site transfer students are required to reside on campus for their first year enrolled at the Webster Groves campus.

22nd in the Midwest

Webster University continues to be highly ranked on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges report, now listed as 22nd in Midwest Regional Universities. Webster was also recognized as a “Best Value” school and “Top Performer” for social mobility.

Check out our Student Life page and find out what’s going on in and around campus. Join a club; attend an event; see a film; play a sport or show up for a game; meet fellow students with similar interests.

Getting involved on campus can help forge lifelong friendships, create unique experiences, and even help build a strong resume. And every Webster campus is a unique reflection of the local community and culture.
